The title of this post is a phrase coined by Paul Krugman, and you can hear his braying laughter like a depraved jackass behind it. Wouldn’t it be a lovely triumph in alchemy to turn a boodle of dimwitted Republican weasels into principled conservatives?
So anyway, the Pax Americana has run its course. What began as a democratic republic, that is, a republic governed by laws established by its citizens via parliamentary process, is now overrun, abused, buried, absorbed, poisoned, and pulled apart like a tasty roasted chicken by a wealthy super plutocratic class, their agents in federal, state and local government, the courts, industry, the media, the military, and the internet, the venal, the ideological, the stupid, the greedy, the fooled, the apparatchiks, the oligopolies of Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon, the internationalmegacorporatehypercapitalists. The evidence is so pervasive that it’s palpable, like time itself.
